A petition calling for the pardon of Steven Avery subject of the Netflix documentary “Making A Murderer has over 220,000 signatures.
The petition is addressed to President of the United States & Governor Scott Walker.
The petition was started on Change.org by a man named Michael Seyedian. His petition states, “There is a documentary series on Netflix called ‘Making a Murderer.’ After viewing it, I am outraged with the injustices which have been allowed to compound and left unchecked in the case of Steven Avery of Manitowoc County in Wisconsin, U.S.A. Avery’s unconstitutional mistreatment at the hands of corrupt local law enforcement is completely unacceptable and is an abomination of due process. Steven Avery should be exonerated at once by presidential pardon, and the Manitowoc County officials complicit in his two false imprisonments should be held accountable to the highest extent of the U.S. criminal and civil justice systems.”
There are also several petitions online to free Brendan Dassey. Dassey the nephew of Avery was seen being led into a false confession on the series. An obviously learning challenged 16 year old boy at the time of the charges, he was caught up[ in the rush to pin Avery with the crime.
The largest Dassey petition has 24,000+ signatures. It is addressed to President of the United States,
Magistrate Judge William E. Duffin – Milwaukee, WI, and Governor Scott Walker. Also started by Michael Seyedian, it states, “I believe that Brendan Dassey of Manitowoc County, WI is the victim of unethical, unconstitutional, illegal law enforcement and criminal justice practices, as evidenced in the video, audio, and written documentation presented in the Netflix documentary, “Making a Murderer.” He is being falsely imprisoned for a crime that he was coerced into confessing, as a minor, through deceitful investigatory methods that purposely and maliciously alienated him from his constitutional rights as a United States citizen. Due process was violated repeatedly on every level in the criminal case against him, from his detainment and questioning to his conviction. Therefore, he should be exonerated immediately.”
