Xbox One Slim Rumored To Compete With Roku, Apple TV

One of the under the radar rumors to circulate concerning streaming television and set top boxes at the end of 2015 was that Microsoft would be introducing a device called the Xbox One Slim to be released in 2016.

According to Petri IT Knowledgebase they have, “heard from internal sources that the company is considering plans for a lightweight Xbox One that may only be for Windows store games and would compete with the Apple TV.”

A similar device had been rumored in the past. Basically the rumors say that it will have access to the Microsoft mobile app store and a channel lineup selection like the Roku, Firestick, and Apple TV.

While I can see Microsoft wanting to get into the streaming channel space, I seriously doubt they will call the device the Xbox One Slim. MS has put a lot of real capital into marketing the Xbox One as cutting edge gaming, and have a device that only plays mobile games with the same name seem s far fetched.

What I do look for them to do is perhaps launch a standalone streaming device that also accesses their mobile app store, but most likely they will do a full on marketing offensive to push the Xbox One as an OTT streaming device and gaming platform, a one stop device for your living room.

What do you think Microsoft will do in the streaming media space? Comment below.
