Sling TV has quickly became one of the most popular linear live streaming TV services. One of the big reasons many cord cutters have first given the service a shot was Sling TV’s free Roku 2 promotion.
Sling TV previously offered either a free Roku 2 or a big discount on a Roku 3 if a customer pre-paid for 3 months of service. considering the cost of a Roku 2, this essentially made trying it out for 3 months a virtual no brainer if you were in the market for a Roku streaming device.
With Roku’s announcement earlier this month that they were discontinuing the Roku 2 and Roku 3 models many cord cutters, including myself wondered if Sling would soon be offering a different model, or if they would just discontinue the popular free Roku promotion.
It looks like Sling is keeping the free Roku promotion and the model now offered will be the Roku Stick. the Roku Stick retails for right around $50, so depending on what plan you pick (Sling Orange $20 a month, Sling Blue $25 a month) you could essential be getting 3 months service for only $10 more than what you would pay for the device retail.
The Roku Stick is a nice device, it’s very fast with a quad core processor and dual band wireless. If you are just getting into cord cutting, this promotion is a nice entry.
