Pluto TV Working On Launch Issues, Questions

Roku users were very excited this past week as Pluto TV officially launched their channel on the device for those with OS 7 installed on their device.

While most users are having zero issues with the channel, there are quite a few including myself are having issues with the channel crashing and returning to the home screen.

It appears Pluto TV is being very reactive as Brendon Thomas, a member of the Roku product team at Pluto TV took time to do a Q&A on the popular Facebook Roku forum Roku Rocks.

Some information gleaned from his posts :

In regards to the bugs and crashes. “We’ll be continually improving the Roku app – this is just our first release. We expect an update in the coming days that will improve things.”

The lack of channels in comparison to the web or desktop app version of Pluto TV. “Due to licensing and content restrictions, unfortunately not all channels available on web or mobile apps are available on Roku at this time.”

Plans to charge for the channel? “There are currently no plans to change from being free.”

Will Pluto TV be available on older models? “We launched Monday on all third and fourth gen devices, 7.0 firmware and higher. Please note that some newer Roku 2s are technically third gen devices. We’re hard at work trying to bring Pluto to older models – stay tuned!”

It’s a very good sign that Pluto TV is reaching out to the users to see what issues are going on. This leads me to believe this isn’t going to be one of the channels that seem to have bugs in perpetuity (looking at you Sling TV). With all the great content, this looks to be a must have channel for cord cutters.

To add Pluto TV to your Roku just go to the Roku Store from your home screen and search Pluto TV.

  1. I have only watched Pluto a couple of times because trying to select a different channel sometimes takes 30 seconds or (usually) much much longer, if at all.
    The content looks so promising but I just can’t seem to get there!

  2. Pluto tv is not loading on my Roku 3 device … I have 7.6.0 firmware. The app was downloading when open it just say hold on while channels load … After 30 mins still not loading or activate
