Dawson’s Creek is coming to Hulu as the streaming service continues to beef up it’s catalog of older shows and movies.
The show along with many other movies and TV series are reportedly coming to Hulu in a multi-year licensing deal with Sony according to a report by Variety. The report lists “Dawson’s Creek,” “Party of Five,” “The Shield” & “Damages.” amongst the TV series on their way as well as many movies including, “Jerry Maguire,” “Midnight in Paris” & “My Best Friends Wedding.”
Hulu is really making a full court press to compete head to head with Netflix and looks like it is positioning itself hard to be the leader. While Netflix has seemingly put it’s money behind improving user experience and originals, Hulu on the other hand seems to be putting a lot of capital in back catalog of classic TV shows and movies.
Which is the correct strategy? The answer could be both. Compared to cable both services are relatively cheap, I think right now we already see a lot of 2 service households and as both services continue to carve out a separate path and not overlap we could see that continue to grow.
