Beware Of Roku Activation Scams

Beware of Roku activation scams. It seems as if almost daily I read questions from folks asking about activation charges for their new Roku. Roku has not ever, and does not charge to activate your Roku. Roku activation is 100% free through Roku’s website.

When purchasing a new Roku users are directed to Roku’s website to activate their device. Many unsuspecting new cord cutters will use a search engine to search for activation and the results will lead them to a Roku knock off site.

Those sites charge $5, $10, $20 or more to do something that you can (and should) do for free through Roku. Not only are you giving away money that you do not need to give away, these scam sites may potentially be taking your personal and financial information and using them for activities not authorized by you.

Always use your onscreen instructions for activation of your Roku which take you to the official site, Roku.com. Once there either log into your account, or create a new account and then use the activation tab. Never use a 3rd party for activation.
